George Stephenson designs the first steam locomotive in 1814. The engine had to be constructed by hand and then had to be shaped into a horse shoe. In 1814 Joseph Nicéphore Niépce was the first person to take a photograph. He took the picture by setting up a machine called the obscura in the his home in France. It took eight hours for the camera to take the picture. The picture eventually faded.Industrial expantion and population changed the face of the nation`s cities.
