The TalibanThe Taliban is an Islamic Movement that used to be under the rule of Bin Laden. The word talib means students. Their H.Q. (headquarters are in Kandarhar. They formed at the time that the soviets were at war over Pakistan. They began their extremist acts in the refugee camps under Soviet Control.Now they control about two thirds of Pakistan and including the Capital Kabul. They took over the capital in September of 1996. When they took the capital they whipped anybody who felt like being un-Islamic.They are also required to were turbans and have beards.Women are not permitted to go to school or have jobs. The Taliban closed all women’s schools because most of the teachers were women. Women are not able to leave their homes without a man because of the war going on. Women are also not allowed to have health care.97% of women are depressed, and 21% of them have suicidal thoughts.The clothes they have to wear are called burqas. They are thick dress like clothes that have small holes for the eyes and a thinner mesh for their mouth to breath.
