Last week in CWI, our blog topic was two major news stories of the summer. Though lots of people did the deaths of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett, there were a couple that were different and people wanted to learn more about. Our class had a lot of questions about swine flu, for instance, what makes it more deadly than the regular flu? In my blog, I am going to tell you about swine flu answer the questions our class had. Swine flu is thought to originated in Mexico. Traveling to Mexico towards the beginning of summer was discouraged, as you could possibly bring it back. Now, that is not as much of a concern as it was because it is already across the boarder. As of now, we have only lost 20 out of about 800 people. There is almost no difference in the symptoms between swine flu and the common flu. The only thing that has been reported, is people with swine flu have had diarrhea and more vomiting. The biggest reason that swine flu is more deadly than the regular flu, is that it isn't affected by antiviral medicine. The reason it is named swine flu is because this infection has the same effects on pigs as the common flu has on humans. Here is a really good link that explains a lot about swine flu and what it does. Swine flu can be deadly, and scientists are estimating that as many as 2 billion people may get swine flu, not necessarily die from it. This was what I found on swine flu, and I hope this answers atleast some of the questions we had.
