Summary 10/1/09

Today we started presenting on our sections that we have been researching. Mr. Bruns also touched on the huge semester blog that we will have to do. This is on the main essencials that we will cover.Cultures Clash on PrairieWhite men thought of Indians as savages. Indians relied on the buffalo and the horse. They used the buffalo for pretty much everything they could. Indians however lived as small family groups with close relatives. They believed that no man could own the land and they moved around. The views of the NA and the White Mens were almost complete opposites. Settlers moved west onto land because of gold, silver, farming, adventure, hunting, herding, and escape debts and such. The government put heavy restrictions on where the Indians could live. They had to live on Reservations and the NA hated this with all their hearts and minds. This all led to conflicts with the settlers. They made the Indians live like the White men and live by their ways. The Dawes Act gave land to NA to farm like the white men. We kept pushing NA into smaller and poorer land as we needed the land. We also killed off the buffalo.
