Sitting Bull was born in South Dakota. At first he was named "Jumping Badger". He had a sister who was six years older than him. As a young boy he was very good at horseback riding, foot races, and shooting a bow and arrow. Jumping Badger overtook a warrior on a retreat and that is how he got his father's name, Sitting Bull.Sitting Bull married Light Hair. They had a son. During birth Light Hair had some problems and died. The son died a few years later. Sitting Bull adopted his nephew and made him his son. He then adopted someone as his brother.
During his twenties, Sitting Bull became a holy man. He had to understand the rituals and beliefs of the Souix. He was also a medicine man.I think that being a holy man would be very difficult. You would have to know and understand all the rituals and beliefs of your tribe. I dont think I would be able to do it.Sitting Bull fought in many battles. Some of which were: Dakota War of 1862, Red Cloud's War, The Great Souix War of 1868-1877, and the Battle of Little Bighorn.
On December 15, 1890, Sitting Bull was arrested. He was asked to mount a horse and go and talk to someone and then he would be able to come back home, but he refused. At that time officers used force and the Indians got mad. One of the Indians shot a police officer. The officer then shot Sitting Bull and he died.Sitting Bull ws a very nice Indian Cheif. He was a good leader and fighter. He was very skilled. It's too bad he died the way he did.
