Buffalo were mostly around the great plains area, (Midwest area) Cattle became a huge business in the 1870's. The ranchers paid cowboys to drive the cows to St. Louis. They couldn't use the trains because the tracks sometimes ended up underwater. There also wasn't very many trains. Cowboys had long days, hard work. Wasn't any fences to range. Battle of Little BigHorn- It was a battle the American 7th Cavalry and the Sioux Tribe. It took place in 1876. The 7th Cavalry led by Colonel Custer. The Sioux were led by Crazy Horse. Battle of the Wounded Knee- The battle of wounded knee was important because it marked the end to the Indian wars. On December 28th, 1890 over 350 starving and freezing Sioux were rounded up by Custers, old calacry. They were taken up to a camp in a Wounded Knee Creek, South Dakota.
