-Describe Native American culture.

-Why did settlers/people move to the Great Plain?

  • Gold mining- Colorado

-How did the US gov't deal with Native Americans in the mid to late 1800's? What were their policies?

  • Treaties to find specific boundaries for each tribe
  • Dawes Act- government decided they would give acres to Native Americans. Native Americans used it however they wanted to. The leftover land was sold to settlers who wanted to start their own farms. Government lied and took everything away from them. 
  • They went to war against them- 1860-1890
  • Put them into reservations; promised them land

-Describe a cowboy's life.

  • Texas Longhorn- 
  • Used horses for work and transportation
  • Cowboys were as young as 15
  • One cowboy to 350 head to cattle
