September 7 - 11

Tuesday- We took the Canada Map Class Quiz and some of us took the individual test today as well. Then we finished presenting third parties.

U.S. Debt: The U.S. has about eighteen trillion dollars of debt. One presidential candidate (who didn't get voted in) said that if every U.S. Citizen (including all babies) paid around 57,000 dollars, our debt would be balanced. It's obvious why this candidate didn't get voted in. To also get out of this debt, we could cut a lot of spending, which could even include education, so this is kind of bad as well. When Busch left presidency, debt was about ten trillion dollars, now this debt has almost doubled.

  • There are major pirate problems in Somalia.
  • The America First Party was founded on April 15th, 2002, which is my birthday! I turned one year old when it was founded.
  • The two main political parties in Germany are the SPD and the CDU/CSU

We assigned groups a political system to do an assignment on. Some of us got economic systems though. My group got Direct and Representative Democracy. We will start with a title slide and book definition. Then we will take the book definition and try to make it easier for people to understand. Then we will have to give five examples of countries that have or have had our form of political system. Finally, we will have to act out our form of political system. Therefore, for my group, we have to role play two little skits about Direct and Representative Democracy. We also have to remember to cite our sources!!!

Wednesday- We started class late because of the assembly. The rest of the class took the individual Canada map test, some verbally and some written. Mr. Bruns handed out the six maps of Asia, and we started filling in and numbering the countries. Then class was almost over so we were given work time for the rest of the period.

  • Donald Trump was "booed" when he arrived at the U.S. Open yesterday.
    • The U.S. Open is a national tennis tournament. (If you didn't know)

Thursday- We went over the Asia maps and got in our groups to work on the project.

Politics

  • Donald Trump is still leading the republican polls but Ben Carson is coming up in second. This is surprising because Ben Carson is an African american but he is a republican. He's not the only one but most of them are democrats.
  • In public office, women have to be smart and model-like. It's unfortunate that they have to deal with that. For guys it doesn't matter how heavy you are but it does for women. Looks matter for women in office.
  • Trump comes across as very brash. The runners are taking swipes at each other. Carson talked about Trump's religion and immigration policy, and Trump talks about Fiorina's looks.
  • In Iowa, Bernie Sanders has closed the gap with Hillary Clinton and is now running equally with her
  • Joe Biden has not decided if he is fit to run for presidency yet, but polls say that if he did, he could most likely surge pass Clinton because her numbers are going down.
  • This marks the second state where Sanders is over-leading Clinton.
  • Iowans rated Biden, Sanders, and Clinton on their honesty and trustworthy. Biden lead the pack at 91%, then it is Sanders at 86%, and then Clinton at 64%. Hillary's is significantly lower because of the email scandal.
  • Clinton is down nine points from July. It is not good to not have favorability in the polls. Biden only dropped one point.
  • We think Bernie Sanders is going to win Iowa and surge ahead, and Trump will finally say something that gets him in trouble.
  • People might think Jeff Bush will get the nomination, but he comes across as kind of boring so I'm not really for sure about that.
  • For democrats, it all depends on what people really think about the email predicament, but if Biden decides to run, she is going to have a real problem.

Friday- A couple of groups sand O Canada. Then we watched a ten minute video on 9/11, and lastly we had time to work on our projects.

9/11

The group in charge was Alquida. After that we sent troops to Afghanistan to fight against Alquida's home base. We are still sending troops to Afghanistan to fight against them.
