Today in CWI we continued our debate. The first topic we talked about today was immigration. I learned that Republicans are against imigration because they believe we need to have more regulations and stricter laws. Democrats are for it and also against it. They think we should secure our borders but have check points to make sure they arent terrorists that are coming into our country. I think our country should allow immigrants but they have to go through the check points and we have to know about their background before they can come into our country.The next topic we discussed in class was minimum wage. Democrats support the minimum wage but they would also like it to go up. This would help people to be able to support their families and make a good living. I learned that Republicans are against minimum wage because they believe it will cause more unemplyment. I think we should have minimum wage because people should get paid what they work for.Next we talked about healthcare. Democrats believe that everyone should be able to have affordable healthcare. I learned that Republicans don't want universal healthcare. I think that everyone should be able to have affordable healthcare, but I still don't really like the whole universal healthcare thing. We didn't spend very much time on this topic because we talked about it alot in class a few weeks ago.The last topic we talked about today was taxes. Democrats believe that the wealthy should have to pay higher taxes and the middle class should pay the same as always. I learned that Republicans want the rich to pay less so they can use the extra money to invest in businesses to help the economy. This is the trickle down theory.
