Russian President Putan just started first strike in Syria. Russia and Syria have been allied for years, so Russia doesn't like the U.S. flying planes in Syria.

A woman was killed today by the death penalty in Georgia. 15 woman have been executed since 1976. Woman don't get subjected to the death penalty as much as men, since more violent crimes are committed by men than women. Might have something to do with gender stereotypes.

Balance the budget

Immigration reform

Pro-life

Tougher border security; stop accepting new applicants; stop a family-based policy where if you have family here you can stay, instead base it on a person's merits and talents to give back to society

Illegal Immigration- the migration of people who cross the national border that violates the immigration laws in a country

It can take 10 years to come to America legally; that's why many people come illegally

There is 11.3 million undocumented immigrants in 2014

More deportations under President Obama than any other president in history

Democratic Stance-

Believe in providing paths to citizenship for people who came illegally

Thinks it's impossibly to deport all 11.3 million undocumented immigrants

Make it easier for people to come legally so they don't have to wait 10 years to become citizens

Republican Stance-

Believe providing amnesty encourages illegal immigration

Stricter penalties for illegal immigrants, and the people who smuggle them here

Illegal immigrants shouldn't have same rights as people who came here legally

Democrats say immigrants strengthen the U.S.; Republicans view them as more of a burden

Thursday- We took to class quiz today over our Asian Maps. My class got 100%. Presented more presentations.

Hurricane coming towards East cost and has been categorized to a 4. Officials are starting to get worried.

Illegal Immigration:

People come to America to get better jobs, a better life for their family, and to be safe. Illegal people usually come here illegally because they don't want to wait 10 years to get into America.

U.S. citizens don't like illegal immigration because some people feel they are taking their jobs, using the U.S. to get social programs and visas, and people who came who legal say that if they had to go through the entire process than everyone should. People who the U.S. really care about deporting are criminals and drug dealers.

Politicians usually like to shy away from immigration (especially Republicans) because they don't want to lose the Hispanic vote.

Birthright citizenship- If you are born in the United States, you're automatically a U.S. citizen. Republicans use the term 'anchor babies' to describe illegal immigrants who come to the U.S. to have there child and then since their baby is a citizen the parents are allowed to stay. Many Hispanics are offended by this term because they say that's not the sole person when coming illegally to the U.S.

2013- 990,553 people official legal residence (green cards). 779,929 immigrants became naturalized in 2013. It takes about 7 years to become naturalized after you are granted 'green card' status.

Top countries of origin of illegal immigrants-

- Mexico (59%)

- El Salvador (6%)

- Guatemala (5%)

- Honduras (3%)

- Philippines (3%)

61% unauthorized immigrants are from ages 25-44. 53% are males. California is the #1 place where illegal immigrants settle. 438,421 unauthorized immigrants were removed from the U.S. in 2013.

Obama's Plan:     Under President Obama, more immigrants have been deported than by any other President in U.S. history.

~ Crack down on at illegal immigration at the border

~ Deport felons, not families

~ Have criminal background checks and taxes on unauthorized immigrants

~ Make legal immigration easier (make sure it doesn't take 10 years)
