granger laws - people abused the railroads, and the owners mistreated everyone by overpricing everything

interstate commerce act- reasonable prices,

panic and consolidation- business were ruined, 5 million jobs lost,  banks closed

Andrew Carnegie- born in Scotland, moved to U.S. when he was 13 at age 17 he started working at railroad companies, he grew and mad lots of money,monopolized the steel industry

industrial unionism-organized everyone regardless of skill, more leverage, and strike situations

strike turns violent-10% wage cut/3rd time, impending interstate commerce

labor unions- long hours, little pay, bad conditions,sweatshop, children, people came together

the American federation labor-average wages rose, less hours and little pay, $17.5 to $24 a week

collective bargaining-successfully got higher wages, collective bargaining or negotiations, and shorter work weeks

Pullman strike- laid off 2,00 out of 5,800 employees, 30 killed 57 injured
