Today in CWI at the begining of class we talked about Libya's leader who is Muammar al-Gaddafi. We finished talking about Taliban. I learned that they are a group of Islamic students. No education for women, no sports, if they left the house they had to be covered from head to toe. They are anti-modern for example they don't want TV. They feared that if they figured out what the rest of the world was doing they would want to do it too.Al-Queda are an international terrorist group. Osama bin Laden is a big part of Al-Queda. I learned that he is 57 and he is orginally from Saudi Arabia. It was founded in 1988 and is still there today. They participated in the attack of 9/11. They want to kill everyone in the U.S. They attempted to take down the Twin Towers in earlier years but were unsuccessful. Al-Queda is a scary threat to the United States. They want the Middle East for Islamic people. We are helping terrorists by buying oil.Both Al-Queda and Taliban have gained strength. They are very concerned of our culture going into theirs.After we talked about Taliban and Al-Queda we discussed the war in Afganistan. The war started shortly after 9/11 happened. Their main goal was to find Osama bin Laden and to take down the Taliban. We succeded by taking down the Taliban people quickly. Obama think we should take troups out of Iraq and put them in Afganistan. The United States have 65,000 people in Iraq and they want to add 6,000 by the end of the year or maybe even more. During the Bush administartion we started another war in Iraq. He focused more on the war in Iraq. Obama said that we need to focus more attention on Afganistan.NATO- was set up as an alliance after world war two.This week my blog topic is the recent election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. We also have to get our 5 blog disscussions in this week. Tomorrow the people who havent taken the oral test yet have to take it. Mr. Bruns also reminded us to study the Europe map because that test will be coming up soon. Our debate is now set for Friday.
