        • Conquered other city-states to gain wealth and power

        • Valued duty, strength and discipline over freedom, beauty and learning

          • Women- not citizens

          • 2nd class- came from other city states

          • 3rd class- slaves

          • Run familiy estates while husbands were off at war

          • Had more freedom then women in Athens

        • Warriors

          • Focus was to focus on war

          • From age 7-30 was training

          • athletic s were stressed
