  • the grange encourages families to work together to promote the social, ecoomic and political well - being of farmers 
  • their was laws passed to fight back against railroad abuses 
  • wanted railroads and grain elevators to charge fair prices 

The Cowboy era

  1. it had lasted around 15 years
  2. the reason why is the demand for beef had fallen 
  3. farmers and sheepherders moved into the great plains and put up fences 
  4. more railroads were built in the south so long drives werent needed 

some major cow towns were kansas and omaha

  1. the indians had been put into most of the louisiana territory to oklahoma 
  2. and a goal was to "Americanize" Native - americans and help them to get out of poverty 
  3. the Indian Reoranization act it had came about to 1930 and they could teach the indians how they want. 

RailRoads

  1. they were a way to help settle the west by transport
  2. gave a lot of people jobs
  3. Railroads charged farmers high prices due to lack of competition 
  4. Many farmers mortagaged their farms to buy more seed and supplies 
  5. crop prices fell due to overproduction 
  6. After the Civil War, the amoundt of money in circulation went down, so money became more valuable which made it harder to pay back debt 

life on the great plains

  1. it was super lonely - their was not a lot of people and you were self safitient 
  2. Bad weather - Sand storms
  3. winter times their was blizards 
  4. their was flash fluds 
  5. insect plagues - it had hit farms in 1870 - 1902
  6. there were native American attacks on settlers throughout the mid-late 1800s in many parts of America
