Tuesday- we discussed what a CIA, Double agent, and triple agent was. We also talked about a guy who was a double agent while being part of Al Qaeda.

Why did Al Qaeda attack us? They think that Al Qaeda was on a rage and that they hate us. Al Qaeda didn't like that U.S. had forces in the Middle East. Osama bin Laden called us Infidels. 9/11 happened because bin Laden did not like the U.S. troops invading the Muslim holy land because it is not their land. Also they didn't like that we are allies with Israel.

What Impact did Al Qaeda have on us for short term and long term? Short term: airplanes were shut down for awhile, cancelled lots of televison shows and sports events, National Landmarks and parks shut down, and many people didn't send their kids to school. Long term: airline security is more strict, there was alot of chronic diseases from the dust, Adults got PTSD, which is a disorder, familys were affected because of loses, we got into a war over in Afganistan, Patriotism icreased a lot,and they made more security at airports. The economy changed (diving) could be short or long term. Many people lost their jobs.

Wednesday- We took our class test over Central America. We talked about a guy from New York, who was recruiting people for ISIS.

DHS (2001)- Department of Homeland Security, makes sure we are safe

FBI (1908/1935)- Federal Buraeu of Investigation, investagates federal crimes

CIA (1947)- Central Intellagence Agency, Headquarters are in Virginia, investagate outside of country

NSA (1952)- National Security Administartion/Agency, listens to phone or internet conversations

Church Committee (1975)- was a guy, who was a senator from Idaho, They researched what the CIA did in past years. The CIA was involved in assasanations to leaders from other countries that they didn't like.

Thursday- We talked about the Iran President , and how the Iranian President wants us to put troops on ground instead of just airstrikes.

What did the U.S. do in Response Cont.? Department of homeland security was set up, new cabinet position in Executive Branch. Patriot Act was passed. NSA(National Security Agency) spying, Waterboarding at Guantanamo Bay, and Bush Doctrine. Waterboarding is when you lay down, towel over face, and people put water on your face. It makes you feel like you are drowning, and you can't breath.

Bush Doctrine- US had the right to secure itself against countries that harbor or give aid to terrorist groups, United States should depose foreign governments that represented a potential threat to the security of the United States, and Encourage democracy around the world especially in the middle east as a strategy for combating terrorism.

History of Al Quada- Al Quada means "The base." In 1988, an afgan mujahadeen means you are from afganistan. Osama bin Laden was the leader of the group. It is now Ayman al-Zawhiri. They invaded Afganistan in 1979. also the withdrew from afganistan in 1981. The Soviet Union started were trying to get other countries out of the middle east. Al Quada started in 1988 because they were trying to get rid of the Soviet Union.

We also started talking about Osama bin Laden.

Friday- We reviewed the Carribean Island map. We also picked new forum post leaders.

We talked about United Kingdom. It consists of Scottland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. There was a vote in Scottland to decide if they wanted to suceed from the United Kingdom or stay with them. The result is that Scottland is going to stay. Scottland wants to be its own country because the have lots of oil. If they left, they would be a very wealthy country. There are two religions in Ireland. They are Protestant and Christain.

US vs. Afghanistan- been at war since 2001. In 1999, Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan. In 1996, the Taliban becomes the government.

US vs. Iraq (ISIS)- Throughtout the 1980's, Iraq and Afghanistan were at war with eachother. In 1988, Curds gased their people, so the governor  got hung becuase he was found guilty at trial. WPD means Weapons of Mass Destruction. Iraq war ended in 2011.

US vs. Syria- President Bush gave a list of countries that support terrorism. Anytime now, we are going to give airstrikes to syria. Consists of muslims. Arab spring is when alot of college students revolted against the government because they wanted better jobs, etc. We are going to bomb the ISIS troops in Syria.

US vs. Iran- talking about in monday

US Support of Israel- Israel is known for the religion of being jewish. Sorronding countries are all muslim. Israel used to be known as Palestine. Palestineons still exist in Israel , but they have any bounderies because they used to have Palestine. They are trying to get their own country (Independant Palestine).
