Sept. 9-13

Monday- Reveiw for test. Herbert Hoover- started the Hoover Dam, became president, limited food intake in civilians to feed troops. Ashton Kutcher- Actor, Thorn created to stop child trafficing. The Five Sullivan Brothers- Died on same ship, family cannot be on same ship. Glen Miller- Swing music, big band tromboneist, military. George Washington Carver- Food scientist, known for peanuts. Buffalo Bill Cody- killing 4,000 buffalo, Wild West show, faught in Civil War. Mamie Eisenhower- First lady, woman and African American rights. Carrie Chapman Cat- Womans rights. John Wayne- Actor, tough guy. Peggy Whitson- astronaut, most space walks. Review over how we did as a whole with presentations. With the rest of class I worked on forum post comments.

Tuesday- Important Iowans Test. Next Unit is Moving West. Mr. Bruns reviews the Civil War and reason for it. The civil war went from 1861- 1865. The 14th amendment gives everyone equal protection of the law. This amendment gave protection for the slaves. The government wouldn't allow the racist government to take control. Once the north left the south the southern government took control again and created segrigation laws. Manifest Destiny is that the Americans had the right to move west and take control of the land. Revolutionary war was faught between Great Britain and the colonist. Texas anexation means that America claimed Texas as our own. 

Wednesday- Today is 9-11 and Mr. Bruns talked about some history of 9-11. Mr. Bruns explains different purchases and the I can statements. Why did people move west. Cattle ranchers, sheep hearders, farming, gold and silver mining, and the homestead act promised 160 acers of land to someone who moved west, built a home, and planted crops.

Thursday- Many Chinese worked on the railroad. Many people hunted, trapped, and for adventure. Buffalo killed off from 15 million to 1,000 and now at 500,000. People also moved west to be a mountain man, and fight in the U.S. Army. The peak of cowboys was 1867-1880.

Friday- One of the most famous sherifs of this time was Wyatt Earp. Wild Bill Hickok is another wild west sherif.
