Reconstruction - 1865-1977
The period of time after the Civil War where the South was rebuilding and was brought back and united with the North.
At this period of time: Democrats were in the South and Republicans were in the North
Abe Lincoln had a Democratic VP so he could get votes from the South even though Lincoln was Republican
Radical Reconstruction:
wanted to rebuild South economically, socially, politically, and physically
13th - abolished slavery
14th - allowed gay marriage
15th - African American males the right to vote
Reconstruction brought the country back to one, but the North and South did NOT see eye to eye
Ended in 1877 with a compromise
