We went over the 10 amedments and explained more thoroughly

Addmendment 1 right to free speech press petition

Addmendment 2- RIght to bare arms

Addmendment 3- Housing of troops

Addmendment 4- Search and Seziure

Addmendment 5- Grand Jury Jeporady

Addmendment 6- Crinimal Procedure Jury Trial

Stephen F Austin and Sam Houston, Mexico let people immagrate, No slaves have to be roman catholic

Spain deystoryed us in the Alamo

The Lone Star Republic, 1846 we annexed it, and made it a part of the United States

Mexican-American War- They went to war about the Texas Border, you want to take over land.

They attacked us first, sending troops past the border territory, border dispute, we buy the mexican cession

Calfornia, nevada, colarado, oregon, new mexico, utah, arizona, whyoming

Civil 1861-1865- The Union won

1. Sectionalism, 2. Slavery, 3. States Rights, 4. tarrifs, 5. Election of 1860 and Seccession

Wednesday-

Mr Bruns talked about note checks. May be weekly. Test on Friday

A new state comes into the union the voting will be off in congress.

Compromise of 1850, calfornia admitted as free state, 

Popular svovereignty- let the people vote

Missouri Compromise Line- no slavery

Dred Scott Decision 1857

7-2 Decison by the US Supreme Court

Blacks aren't us citzens they cant sue in court is what they said.

Said that the goverment could not abolish slavery

Suddenly slavery could be open anywhere

Lincoln is elected 1860- they think he will let the slaves be free

Texas Louisanan Arkansas Georgia South and North Carolina. Missouri Kentucy WV Maryland didn't secceed. Free States Ioa Minnesotta Illinios Oregon Calfornia.

Why did the North win the civil war- Abudant resources, larger population, new military leaders, leadership of Lincoln, and determination of African Americans to end slavery

Reconstruction 1865-1877- rebuilding of the south

President Lincoln and Johnson wanted to be easy on the South

Friday- 13th amendments- It made slavery unconstutional and illegal14th Amendement- It stated that states could not take away rights of citizens without due process of the law; it made blacks us citzens

15th Amendement- It allowed all men to vote, no matter their skin color

Freedoms Bureau- provided food clothing and job training and education to free slaves

Carpetbaggers- northerners white republicans who moved south after war. Many won politcal office or became rich buisnessmen- had bags that looked like carpet

Scalawags- Southern born white republicans, southerners believed these people were betraying south.

Set up schools, raised taxes, built railroads, helped ex slaves, industralized south

Goverments were accused of widespread corruption by southerners

Once the northern goverments and miltiary left the south traditional rich white racist males took back over

Jim Crow laws and segregation was established

African Americans would not see the rights they should have had in 1865 until 1964

Election of 1876- Tilden won the popular vote and was leading electoral votes

Four states with 20 electoral votes had disputed results

The compromise of 1877

Unwritten deal between Northern and Southern politicans that settled the disputed 1876 US Presidential election

Republican Rutherford B Hayes was awarded the White House over demorcrat Samuel J Tilden

Hayes would then remove the fedral troops from the south ending reconstruction
