Notes fro TEST THURSDAY:

Reconstruction (1865-1877) A period in time after the civil war in which the north tore about the south throughout the war and in the end the south won and needed reconstruction

* had to be rebuilt south economically, socially, politically, and physically... economically because there was no more slaves they really had to rebuild cause the way they were before they relied on their slaves .... socially because they were rebounding with families and friends... politically the southern governments had to be changed.. physically cause cities had to be rebuilt physically

* president's Lincoln(republican) and Andrew Johnson(Democrat) wanted to be easy on the south

* Republican Radical Reconstruction - rebuilt south, split south into 5 military districts and the US was in charge to make sure things were being followed (for 12 years) ... 3 amendments were passed... 13th 14th and 15th amendments passed ....13th gave black protection and made them apart of the law.. 14th made black US citizens... 15th gave black males the right to vote

* Freedom's Bureau set and was there to help the free men (former slaves) and helped them get jobs

* should have lasted longer than 12 years

Last day of notes:

Reconstruction- (the end).... Was supposed to reunite the north and south but it didn't really at all it should have lasted longer .. the power people needed to die out for new generations with more open minds and less racism... because it ended so soon all the power people came back into power and Jim Crow Laws came into segregation (black water fountain black parks ect...) .... 1964 of the civil act rights really starting kicking in and helping ....

Election of 1876 - Rutherford B. Hayes won ... He ended reconstruction
