Sep 5-9

Monday we reviewed the maps and continued to present presentations. We've done the same thing in class all week.

South Carolina still has bad flooding.

The right to die law- If you're terminally ill and are suffering, you have the option to end your own life.

30% of teens break up via text message.

We aren't on good terms with Russia or Syria, but we're all kind of working together to fight ISIS.

N.A.T.O.- North Atlantic Treaty Organization- The "good" countries.

Candidates:

  • Ben Carson- (R) Used to have anger problems then he became saved. Medical doctor. Strong Christian man. Need a man like him in office to bring Christ back to our nation.
  • Marco Rubio- (R) Dolphins fan. He thinks he has a new and vibrant representation for the Republican party. Stand up to Obamacare.
  • Donald Trump- (R) Been bankrupt multiple times. Offered Obama a lot of money to give to a charity of his choice if he gave us his birth certificate. Wants to deport all the illegal immigrants. Wants to build a wall.
  • Mike Huckabee- (R) Very religious guy. Writer. He thinks the predictions on climate change are all wrong. Supporter of the 2nd amendment. Thinks about getting rid of income tax and increasing sales tax. Against abortion. Against gays. Against recreational drugs.
  • Rand Paul- (R) He ran for president on more than one occasion. Says he'll only spend what we get in, cut spending. Says and audit of the Federal Reserve needs to be done. Apposed to abortion, but not entirely. Paul supports border security. States are allowed to say if weed is legal there. Not doing well in the polls.
  • Hillary Clinton- (D) Her mother was a big influence on her. Used to be a first lady when Bill was president. Focuses on health care and children. She thinks we need to tighten gun control.

Issues:

  • Gay Marriage- Legalized this summer. June 26, 2015 Democrats think it's okay. We need to stay a nation under God. How can we claim to be that if we can't even bring a bible into court room to make a decision. It's nuts how we're criticized for flying the Confederate flag which is a part of our history, while the gays are being praised for altering the American flag. The reason our nation is falling apart is because we're ignoring God. Not just a crazy coincident. Hate the sin, love the sinner.
  • Illegal Immigration- People who cross the nation's borders illegally. Most people think of Mexicans when we mention the word, illegal immigrants, but it can be anyone who comes illegally to our country, even Canadians. Birthright citizenship- If you are born here, you are granted citizenship. Anchor babies- Babies who are born in the US and belong to illegal immigrants. Top country to get immigrants from is Mexico. There are roughly 11 million illegal immigrants in America. Green card- grants them legal status in America. Both parties want tighter control at the border.
  • Gun Control- Republicans are generally against tightening on gun control while Democrats are generally more for it. They want to ban assault rifles. Handguns cause the most deaths. Gun control laws get pressed after things like mass shootings and presidential assassinations. In the 30's they started tightening gun regulations because of gangs having automatic weapons. Brady bill was past after the attempt to kill Ronald Reagan. A lot of countries think we're crazy for letting people own guns so freely. Most countries have much tighter gun control regulations. The more people own guns the more deaths from guns there are typically. There are more suicides by guns than there are homicides by guns. NRA- educates people on how to handle guns, many people think they have too much say in congress.
  • Taxes- Republicans think that we need to budget our money better instead of taxing people more. Democrats want to tax the rich more, but they lack detail. Republicans would help the rich out more while the Democrats would hurt them more. 16th Amendment to the US Constitution gives the government power to tax us. Income tax- a tax on peoples' income, usually taken out through your paycheck. The top three things our taxes goes to are the military, health care, and then interest on federal debt. Trickle down theory- cut taxes for everybody, so the big businesses hire more people, helping the people with money eventually helps the people without money.
  • Minimum Wage- They've been trying to raise the minimum wage to $10.10. Republicans are more likely to vote against increasing minimum wage because it hurts business. Democrats would want to increase it to help out workers. Adults would benefit the most by increasing minimum wage because then less of them would have to spend money on going to college. We shouldn't have to increase minimum wage to a price that you could live on. They're starter jobs. If you want to have a job that you get paid to live off of, go to college.
  • Health Care- 1910 is when insurance would start providing for people. Obama Care- people have to health insurance, allows people who can't afford health care an opportunity to get it. Republicans would rather have it patients centered. Democrats enjoy the affordable health care insurance. Can stay under your parents till you are 26, this helps with debt while going to school.
