Students will understand the causes and effects of global warming. We cause it because of the rising CO2 level and the pollution in the air. Global warming is because there are so many CO2 emissions that are clouding the atmosphere. Then traps the heat inside and that raises the temperature. Some effects would be the melting ice caps. These happened before any human activity could have affected anything. Another statistic is that when CO2 emissions first started to rise sharply the general temperature of the world when down. Global warming still hasn’t been proven either way yet, so many people still disagree4. Students will understand the causes and effects of overpopulation.Definition of overpopulation is not just the huge number of people in the world it's the impact that each person has on the world. We are getting healthier and healthier so not as many people die as soon as they use too. We are finding more antidotes to sicknesses so people don’t die from them. On top of that we are having more and more babies. Another reason is that women aren’t informed enough. They don’t know how to stop from getting pregnant.5. Students will understand the impact of globalization. There are three different types of globalization. Companies globalizing and then finally individuals globalizing. Some major flatteners were when Netscape went public and when the Berlin wall fell. Offshoring is an example to show the world flattening. Everyone has a chance for a job that you want. Say you and someone from China both have the same intelligence level. They aren’t going to hirer you, because the other person will do it for less money. Globalization is making it harder for students. China and India have more honor students than we have students. If the world keeps globalizing like this a teacher in China could be teaching a class in Iowa in no time. A lot of people aren’t ready for what’s coming, and that’s scary because they can be replaced just like that.7. Students will be able to explain their understanding of recent current events(Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Darfur, Rwanda, Somalia). We invaded Afghanistan because of what happened on Septemeber 11.. 9-11 was when four planes were hijacked and went to four designated places. The pentagon, Twin Towers to kill people. The people who did this was Al-Qaeda terrorists. Al-Qaeda is a terrorist group founded by Osama bin Laden in the 1980's. They were supported by the Taliban which was an Islamic group who controlled Afghanistan. The Darfur-Sudan conflict started in 2003 because the Sudan Liberation Army and the Justice and Equality Movement were treating the Arabs better than the Africans. Africans started attacking the government under the accusations. The Sudan Government wasnt really prepared for an attack, so they didnt have any Military ready, but they did have one Militia in the area that was supposed to rid the area of ALL the black Africans...the Militia was called: Janjaweed. The situation now has seemed to get worth because the estimated number of deaths is getting higher. Its somewhere aroudn 300,000 to 400,000 people have died during the past 5 years. But the strange thing is, I've never really heard about this...all these people are dying and they could seriously use our help but we're up in Iraq and Afghanistan where they could get taken off by themselves and thrive, but these people have no help at all, and could seriosly use it. Women and children and the innocent people have no where to go. And the violence has spread. All throughout Darfur and is now slowly seeping into Chad. The Janjeweed is causeing alot of this and now, over 100,000 people have fled Chad because of fear of dying. The U.S. and the U.N. refers to all these killings as Genocide. The Janjaweed is trying to kill all black Africans. The U.N. sent a African/UN union to try to keep the peace but you cant keep the peace all that well if the people there arent willing to stop the violence. There have apparently been many attempted peace treatys but none of them have worked...They just continued with the violence continued. In 2007 the Sudan President was charged with three counts of genocide and ten counts of war crimes, plus two counts of murder. And just think...none of this would have happened if Sudan would have just treated everyone equal and got along. I guess that whole...chain reaction is just one person, one group, one country could just destroy everything.. Examples: Look whats happening in Darfur, Iraq,Germany during the Holocaust. But the weriod thng is that all of those things were caused by one person or group.Rwanda Genocide was a mass killing of thousand of Rwanda Tutsis and Hutu political members in 1994 by the Hutu government. The killing of the people went through the middle of July till a total of 5000,000 and 1,000,000 people were killed. That was more then 20% of the country’s population.Rwanda’s people have always have had a lot of ethnic tension between the two groups. Even though they do not get along at all; they have a lot in common. They speak the same language, inhabit the same areas and follow all most the same traditions. The Rwanda Genocide started with the assassination of Juvenal Habyarimana of April 6, 1994.His plane was shot down about the Kigali Airport. Hours later the country was filled with violence and the Rwanda Genocide had actually begun. And did not end till about three months later.Tutsis bodies were thrown into the rivers. The killer said that they were being sent back to their original country Ethiopia. When Belgium colonists went to Rwanda they considered the Tutsis to be "superior" and not the Hut. Anger was building up in the Hutu people and they decided to kill more than 20,000 Tutsis in 1959 and send them back to their countries. In August 1993, there were many attacks because of the Rwanda Patriotic Front or the RPF and now the dead president Habyarimana. But that did not matter because he passed away a few weeks after. The people who shot the plane down is still unknown. Everybody was taking part in the Rwanda Genocide, police officers and soldiers convinced ordinary citizens to take part in the massacre and even people who were bribed with money, food and land. The United Nations troops withdrew after 10 of their soldiers were murdered. Finally in July, the RPF claimed Kigali and over 2 million Hutu people fled to Zaire.
