- Overproduction of goods
- under consumption of goods by consumers
- agricultural slump due to overproduction
- High protective tariff policies of the 1920's
- taxes benefiting the rich-rich got richer, poor got poorer

Great Depression Cycle
- Companies lose $$ so they lay people off
- Unemployment rate goes up and less people buy goods as income has dropped
- Companies profits fall so they have to lay more people off or close
- Cycle repeats itself

- Goal - Stop Communism
- North was communism
- Vietcong were the northern communism enemies in the south

- Geneva Conference 1954 - set up elections to unify the country by July, 1956, such elections were never held because neither side wanted to lose
- Ho Chi Minh - helped with communism, fought and won against France, wants independance
- Escalation - starting very small and then work our way up,President Truman began U.S. involvement by sending money to help the French, President Eisenhower continued US support by sending military advisers to give temporary support to Diem's government to the South, President Kennedy continued sending advisors as well as special operation forces, President Johnson sent more and more combat forces
- Vietcong - northern Vietnamese enemies fighting in the south (communists)

- Gulf of Tonkin Resolution - US ship was supposed to be attacked by north Vietnamese torpedoes

- Tet Offensive - massive offensive against every city in the south, people back home felt betrayed by their government
- Pentagon Papers - top secret study on the war that showed the government was misleading the people from what was really happening during the war
- Operation Rolling Thunder - code name for the non-stop bombing raids in north Vietnam by US, was not successful
- Agent Orange - herbicide to kill the jungle
- Napalm - fiery, oily substance that burns
- My Lai Massacre - US soldiers killed 504 Vietnamese civilians
- Kent St. University Protest/Massacre - Students protesting and national guardsmen accidental firing

- - Planes were hijacked and were flown into the world trade centers, and both towers crashed due to structural damage, 2,606 were killed
- American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon, part of the building collapsed, 189 people were killed
- United Airlines Flight 93 was expected to head toward the Capitol Building in Washington D.C., Passengers in that plane prevented that from happening, 44 people killed
