Political SystemsThe main political and economical systems in the world are anarchy, communism theory, practice of communism, socialism, capitalism, direct democracy, representative democracy and absolute and constitutional monarchy.-Anarchy has chaos in a state; there are no authorities or government.-Direct Democracy is when people have their own power.-Representative Democracy is when the people elect representatives to make for them. The people vote.-Absolute Monarchy is when one person in absolute power and the people have no say.-Constitutional Monarchy is when people have some say in the decisions that the king and queen make, but it’s limited by the constitution.-Communism Theory is a peaceful society where everyone is equal. The poor people will rise up and everyone will be fair with money.-Practice of Communism is when the government controls everything - so whatever you make, they can take from you and share it equally with everyone. They claim it will help a higher social order. It is really strict.-Socialism is when the government owns and controls businesses.-Capitalism is when businesses are privately owned and operated by civilians.Political Party ViewsThe main difference between the two political parties is Republicans have more traditional views and emphasize the importance of religion. Republicans also believe in Trickle Down Theory and laissez-faire which allows people to do what they want.-abortion: Democrats believe that abortion should be legal. They think that women should have the rights to their own bodies. Prochoice. Republicans think they shouldn't have to make the baby suffer for the parent's mistake.-flag burning: Some of the Democrats think that it should be banned because of the powerful symbol. While others think that it affects freedom of expression or free speech. Republicans think it is disrespectful and are very much against it. (-powerful symbol)-gun control: Democrats think that we need more gun regulations and restrictions. This means that only certain people can have certain types of guns and must have reasons. Republicans think it is okay because of the second amendment about to bear and keep arms.-environmental laws: Democrats are usually more environmentally considerate compared to the Republicans. For example the Democrats don't think that we should drill for oil in Alaska. They are concerned that it will have negative impact on the environment. Republicans think the is indestructible and it can't get any worse.-immigration: The Democrats think that we cannot continue to allow people enter the United States undetected, undocumented, and unchecked. They believe that we should secure our borders. Republicans are against it. They think we need more regulations. Agree with democrats.-minimum wage: Democrats support what the minimum wage is or having the minimum wage be higher. Republicans think it will cause more unemployment if it is raised.-health care: Democrats believe that everyone should be able to have affordable healthcare. Republicans don't think it is fair to make people pay more.-taxes: They believe that the wealthy should have to pay higher taxes and the middle class should pay the same as always. Republicans think everyone should pay the same amount.-US role in the world--Iraq: Democrats believe that the war in Iraq should come to a responsible end which means that the sooner we leave Iraq the more quickly Iraq will become stable. Republicans think we need to stay in Iraq and Afghanistan until the war is won.-Affirmative action law - Democrats supports it. It says that race or whatever else doesn't matter. People shouldn't discriminate based on those things. Republicans are against it, people shouldn't be told who and what they can't hire.-Death penalty - democrats are no longer supporting the death penalty. They switched to against it in 2005. They don't think any crime is bad enough for death. Republicans are for it, they think they should be put to death.-Gay Marriage - Democrats are for gay marriage. They think that if you love someone, they should have the right to marry them. Republicans don't think people of the same sex should marry.-Military spending - Democrats are against military spending. They think that we are spending too much money on our military services and think we should cut back and spend money on 'green stuff'. Obama wishes to cut it by 25%. Republicans think we should keep spending money until war is won.-US Role in the World - Afghanistan – Democrats believe we should be focusing more on Afghanistan instead of Iraq. They think we should send more troops to Afghanistan. They also believe that if we win the war in Afghanistan, the war will come to a complete end. Republicans think we should stay in until we win.-US Role in the United Nations - Democrats believe that we should have the United Nations to help solve the world's problems Republicans agree to solve the world's problems.-Prayer in school - Democrats don't think that prayer should be allowed into the school doors. Republicans think it should be allowed.Causes and effects of Global Warming- There are many causes of global warming. Many people believe that that the main cause of Global Warming is coming from people and factories but there are many other reasons. The trees are letting off Carbon dioxide which is getting into the earths atmosphere and harming the ozone layer. The burning of coal lets off toxic substances into our air. The pollution from our vehicles, water vapor, gases, and fossil fuels are also causing global warming as well. Because of this many things are happening throughout the world because of our mistakes. Bugs are migrating from other countries that carry diseases, their spreading diseases throughout people and trees as a result many trees and people are dying. Down in areas such as Africa and Australia, etc. the probabilities of a drought occurring keeps increasing. The temperatures in Antarctica and other freezing areas are experiencing melting of ice caps. This makes it hard for animals to travel across the ice.Causes and Effects of OverpopulationSome of the causes of overpopulation are good and others are bad. There has been a decline in the death rate because we now have more medicine and better medical equipment to keep people alive. There has also been a increase in the birth rate because there is now medication you can take to improve fertility and conception. Migration is also becoming an issue. Large amounts of people are moving to one area and this causes that area to run low on natural resources. A lack of education is occurring as well, the young generation of kids and teenagers need to be educated on overpopulation. Overpopulation is causing our natural resources to be used faster than they can be replaced. It’s also destroying biological diversity. Polluting of the world is occurring to which doesn’t help out the environment and global warming. The earth’s water level is lowering as well.Impacts of Globalization-People in today’s world can communicate with anyone in the world through technology, which is making the world seem small. Technology is taking over. These generations of young people need to be caught up with technology because they will be competing for jobs with kids from many other countries because the kids from other countries will work for cheaper payments. Technology is allowing easy access to basically anything in the world.AfghanistanAfghanistan - started from 9/11. (Twin Towers and Pentagon) Al-Qaeda, a world-wide terrorist organization), was behind the attack. Bin Laden is in charge of it based out of Afghanistan. The government was a Tali-Ban. They were very much against women. We invaded Afghanistan about a month after 9/11. There is not a lot of massive fighting now. We are still looking for Bin Laden, but Taliban is out of the picture now. The government is set up differently with the help of the US. We will be sending more troops there.IraqA lot of people thought we went to Iraq in 2003 because of 9/11 also, but we didn't. We invaded because Suddam Hussein, president of Iraq, had weapons of mass destruction (nuclear). We have been at war in the 1990's when we helped Kuwait from Iraqi control. We put certain restrictions on Iraq after that. They could not have troops in the northern part of southern part of the country. None in the north - to protect Kurds (ethnic group). Hussein tried to kill them with gas warfare in the late 1980s. None in the south - to continue to protect Kuwait. It was called the No Fly Zone; they couldn’t have any troops there. The UN, peace organization, would fly jets and fighter planes to make sure Iraq didn't cross the lines. There were weapon inspections also. This was to make sure they didn't have or weren't making any nuclear weapons. We got tired with Iraq, so the UN had the US invade Iraq. We had a lot of gains and took control of cities. We caught Hussein and was put to death by his own people. We never found weapons, so a lot of people think we need to get out of there. It is somewhat safer there, but not a ton. The different religious groups are so diverse, that it is hard to keep peace in between them. Troops are supposed to be coming out early this year and we hope to have troops out of the cities in the summer. By Jan 2012, all troops are supposed to be out of Iraq unless Iraqi government wants us to stay.IranIran's nuclear program and role in Iraq- The government of Iran was making and giving nuclear weapons to Iraq to kill American troops. Iran is angry we are protecting Israel. Iran told us and signed a treaty we would stop, but we recently found weapons in Iraq that were obviously made my Iran. Now, Iran is building a 'secret' uranium facility. It is for producing more major weapons, but they claim it is for nuclear energy. Their nuclear program started in the 1950's. The United States and Europe helped them get it started. They wanted to create it, to help save oil.US Relations with Iran- There was a hostage crisis and they took 70 US citizens and kept them hostage for 474 days. Carter was the president and insisted on getting them back, this was the biggest crisis during his time. The US and Iran were once allies.SomaliaSomalia is the number one failed state in the world. There whole country is falling apart and is out of control. A lot of killings are occurring. They have no authority so everyone is doing anything the wish to do. This makes it hard for parents to support their families. Most fathers fish for a living. You will not find a single hotel or restaurant there. The 5 clans in Somalia decided they wanted to be united. They get no help from their president. It’s a mess in Somalia.RwandaThere is a huge conflict between the Tutsi’s and Hutu’s. The government favored the Arab’s over the African Americans. The Tutsi’s gained all power of the country. They had the most money and the better jobs. The Hutu’s were treated unfairly and began to revolt. It all started after the Hutu’s president was assassinated. They then started killing all the Tutsi’s and moderate Hutu’s. Rwanda’s militia has 30,000 members. The militia set up road blocks everywhere in the country to prevent people from escaping from the horrid massacre. The Hutu’s killed Tutsi men, women, and children. The women were raped and usually died from diseases. They used machetes as their weapon to kill. The Hutu’s were mainly focusing on wiping out the next generation of Tutsi children so that there would be no more Tutsi’s after the older generations died out. 500,000 to 1,000,000 people were killed. That’s 20% of Rwanda’s population killed in just 100 days.DarfurDarfur is scared for when their conflict with Sudan ends. They are worried they will lose all their access to resources that they need in order to survive. Darfur claims that Sudan likes Arab’s more than non-Arabs. Sudan ordered the Janjaweed and Sudanese military to attack the Africans. They tortured them through rape, cutting off limbs, ethnic cleansing, bombing civilian targets, murdering, starving, maiming, and smashed faces. President Bashir gave the land to the Janjaweed because he didn’t want non-Arabs to have the land. Over 400,000 were killed and 2.5 million were displaced.
