1. Students will understand the impact the Industrial Revolution had on the United States.The Industrial Revolution was during the 1800’s. A lot of businesses like factories were becoming more powered by machines than by people. I think that’s when people started to get lazier and many people lost their jobs because they didn’t need people anymore because they had these machines to do it. But In a way, it was a good thing because the products were made faster.2. Students will understand the impact immigration and urbanization had on the United States.Immigration is when people come over to the U.S. from other countries. Most of them entered the late 19th and early 20th century, about 30 million immigrated to the U.S. But the biggest numbers came from Germany. They came to the U.S. looking for work mostly, and after a while the population of immigrants became very large, so a lot of them got cut from the job because they agreed they’d get paid for less money, and so they got rid of them first. After they would get fired from the job they’d become homeless because they couldn’t get any other jobs. The industrial boom promised work for anyone. The Immigrants usually were not educated beyond grammar school and they so called provided solution, like the boss would provide water and food and all that stuff. . The boom, for farmers they didn't have to hire as many immigrants, if they couldn't find any jobs then they'd have to move again. They either had the option to build houses on the outskirts of town, or rent a house outside the town, but it was hard for them to get to work. Usually there was around four or five families of immigrants that were living in one room. They passed a law that your house had to be a certain clean. They'd put trash into airshaft because it would put the smell outside of the house.Urbanization is the movement of people from rural to urban areas with population growth equating to urban migration. Students will understand the impact of the Progressive Era on the United States.The progressive era was a period of time between 1890 and the early 1900’s when a lot of change came about to help the common person. The four goals of Progressivism was protecting social welfare, promoting moral improvement, creating economic reform, and fostering efficiency.The progressive era changed a lot for the common person, like they passed the 19th amendment in the 1920s that gave the women the right to vote. They made working in factories safer by changing the working hours from 12 to 15 hours to around 10 hours per day. Another thing they did was that they limited the amount of time or hours children could work to the maximum amount of 15 hours.4. Students will understand the impact imperialism had on the United States and world.Imperialism is when countries that are stronger take over weaker countries. The Platt Amendment was a rider append to the Army Appropriations Act. The amendment became active in 1827 to around 1905 it replaced the earlier Amendment Teller. The Teller Amendment was enacted on April 19, 1898 from President William McKinley's War Message. The U.S military was in Cuba. It also ensured the U.S. involvement in Cuban affairs, both foreign and domestic, and gave legal standing to U.S. claims to certain economic and military territories on the island.5. Students will understand the causes for US involvement in World War I and the effects it had on the United States.The causes of WW1 were alliances, imperialism, and militarism. An alliance is an agreement made between two or more countries to give each other help if it is needed. Imperialism is when a country takes over new lands or countries and makes them subject to their rule. And militarism is when the army and military forces are given a high profile by the government.The effects that it had on the United States was that it stimulated the U.S. economy, increased employment, and wages, and brought great profit to industry. The United States emerged from the war as clearly the greatest power in the world as well as the creditor nation of the world.6. Students will understand the political, social and economic changes that occurred in the 1920’s in the United States.The Kellog-Briand Pact was also called the pact of Paris. It helped stop war, Frank Kellog was the secretary of the war at that time. It was made for the war between France and the U.S. after WW II all the nations had been prohibited from annexing territory by forceThe political changes during the 1920's there was Nativism, Anarchists, Isolationism. Nativism is prejudice against foreign-born people. Anarchists were people who were against any type of government and trampled people’s civil rights. Isolation is when we were kind of doing our own thing, and it was a policy where you pull away from involvement with world affairs. Limiting immigration is another thing that happened, and the need of unskilled workers decreased by a lot. Some nativists thought that they shouldn't allow as many into the U.S.Fordey McCumber Tariff raised taxes on us imports up to 60%Communism is a form of socialism that abolishes private ownership, and is based on a single party government ruled by a dictatorship. They tried to equalize and end private parties, railroads, and business.Daw’s Plan- we were going to give money to Germany so they could repay Great Britain and France, they said they’d pay back, but never did so we lost a lot of money.The Red Scare is a period of general fear of communists. Revolutionaries in Russia overthrew the scar Vadimir I. Lenin and the follower. After this all happened the KKK and the quota system started.Social changes,The 1920's had many names, the jazz age, the roaring 20's, boom to bust, and the lost generation.The flappers were basically the style then, even though most women weren't flappers. They were girls who wore the latest fashions, like short skirts, short hair, & necklaces. They usually attracted the men a lot, and were ladies who went from men to men, and weren't ever in a serious relationship. They would smoke, dance, and drank a lot. This was illegal. Next was the double standard, between the men and women the principles were different. The women were looked down to if they weren’t going to marry the man they dating freely. The women usually worked during the war because the men would go to war, they were usually nurses, .librarians, and teachers.The radio, it changed a lot of families, before the radio came out many people hadn’t heard of music before. It was the most powerful communication source to emerge. KDKA was the first radio station. The main type of music was Jazz, they loved it and they’d dance to it. People would tune in to listen to sports, news, entertainment, advertisements, and jazz.Urbanization, a lot of people were moving from the rural farms to town, because of all the new inventions, like cars, radio, and washing machines were there. Although many people didn’t like some things in the cities, such as drinking and casual dating. People hoped that Prohibition would bring down the amount of crimes. The crime rates increased by leaps and bounds. A lot of the people found new inter sting ways to smuggle alcohol and make it, which would always lead to crime.Al Capone was a very famous gangster. The gangs would sell alcohol, control gambling, and distribute drugs.7. Students will understand the causes and effects of the Great Depression.The great depression was a severe economic depression; it started in about October 29, 1929 that day is also called Black Tuesday. It lasted until the late 1930s or early 1940s. It started in the U.S with the stock It had effect on the market crash. Personal income, tax revenue, profits and prices dropped, and international trade plunged by a half. It also left a lot of people unemployed and the unemployment rate went up 25% in the U.S. More effects from the great depression was that a lot of people lost their homes, people became hobos, men would leave their wives and become a hobo, many schools closed, the suicidal rate went up, and people tried to protect their income by raising tariffs and imports. There were a lot of farmers that moved west to Cali because of the dust bowl.Crop prices fell by about 60% so farming and rural areas suffered. Cash cropping, mining, and logging fell the most. WWI’s high demand of goods was no longer needed so businesses had an excess supply and no demand so they were going out of business.
