1. Students will understand the main political and economic systems of the world.Direct Democracy is where the people have power and participate in making their own decisions. Representative Democracy is where the people vote and/or elect other individuals to represent them. Socialism is practically where the government takes from the rich and gives to the poor. Communism is where the government controls everything. The theory of Communism is that it is to be like a Utopia where everybody shares everything. Anarchy is where there is no government what so ever. Absolute monarchy is where one person (a King or a Queen) rules over others. Constitutional Monarchy is when a king or a queen is more of a figurehead than a full-power leader. Then there is the opposite of Socialism, capitalism, where people have there own businesses without the government intervening.2. Students will understand the differences between the major political parties in the United States.Republican and Democracy are the two major political parties in the United States. Republicans usually favor the traditional institutions, status quo, laissez-faire, lower taxes and the trickle down theory. The republican ‘s logo is of an elephant.

Students will understand the causes and effects of global warming.Possible CO2 emissions and overpopulation cause global warming. Though I think that global warming is just a cycle the earth has to try and correct itself along with global cooling. Global warming is effecting animal species and it has started to affect us humans as people in the eastern countries begin to fight for land to keep growing crops in fertile soil. It is also staring to make the sea level rise because it is melting the ice caps.4. Students will understand the causes and effects of overpopulation.Overpopulation: mother of all problems. It is caused by lack of education, lower death rate, higher birth rate, and some religious beliefs. Overpopulation can lead to the death of our planet. By overpopulating our planet we are destroying the land around us. Cutting down the forest, using up all the fertile soil. All this is simply because of our growing needs as humanity.5. Students will understand the impact of globalization.The impact is that we can now communicate with anyone around the world. It’s a level playing field for everyone. People can teach themselves stuff just by going on the Internet. People must learn to adapt to this globalization for if they don’t they will be very behind of everyone else.7. Students will be able to explain their understanding of recent current events (Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Darfur, Rwanda, Somalia).Iraq-The reason we had invaded Iraq is because we believed that they had mass weapons of destruction. We had been there before to help Kuwait from being taken over. We had put restrictions on Iraq one of them being that they could not nuclear weapons.Afghanistan-They were behind the attack of 9-11. Al-Qeada, a worldwide terrorist organization, and Bin Laden is in charge of it and it is based out of Afghanistan. The government there was taliban who are very much against women and house hold technology. Although the taliban is gone, we are still looking for Bin Laden.Iran-They say that they are making uranium rich plants for energy, but we think otherwise. We think they are making nuclear weapons. We try and negotiate with them but they won’t have it. They are so stubborn!Darfur-the conflict started when Sudan kept saying that they liked Arabs over black Africans. The Africans then started the fight. It ended up that over 400,000 was killed and about 2.5 million were displaced. Many of the others have to have volunteers help them live.Rwanda-Hutus were killing the Tutsis because the Europeans favored the Tutsis over the Hutus. The Hutus were enraged. When their president’s plane was shot down and was killed they blamed it on the Tutsis. About a million people died in just approximately 100 days.Somalia-Somalia is a failed state. They are currently anarchy and its pretty bad there. So much killing is going on there. People can hardly support their families.
