1. Students will understand the impact the Industrial Revolution had on the United States.~ This was a period from the 18th to 19th century in when there was many changes in manufacturing, and transportation.2. Students will understand the impact immigration and urbanization had on the United States.~ Urbanization started in the 1900s in the Midwest. There were a lot of problems with urbanization there were many fires and houses were made of woods they would catch on fire real quick. There were a lot of floods and there were no sanitary systems.~ Ellis Island was where many immigrants came to the United States. They had to go through many tests and answer many questions.3. Students will understand the impact of the Progressive Era on the United States.~ The Progressive Era was a period of reformation from 1890 to 1920. most of the change was for the poor people. The progressives made the work place safer by reducing working hours. The young children and immigrants worked in factories as well. Many died because they had poor working conditions. Today OSHA can shut your business down if they find out your business is not safe. Drinking and selling of Alcohol was a big thing. Latter on a doctor thought that alcohol was bad cause it could cause internal damage so they tried to stop the selling of alcohol.~ The Keting Owen act was an act that would not let products go out of state if it was made by Children. Children would work 16 hours a day and if they fell asleep they could have an arm or leg cut off.4. Students will understand the impact imperialism had on the United States and world.~ Imperialism is the policy in which stronger nations extend their control over weaker territories. We had a strong army. The Platt Amendment stating that Cuba could not make treaties that might limit its independence or permit a foreign power to control any part of its territory. The United States reserved the right to intervene in Cuba; Cuba was not going to go into debt. We helped Cuba get their independence and then took over Cuba. We bought Alaska from Russia. The impact on the United States was under McKinley the United States had gained an empire.5. Students will understand the causes for US involvement in World War I and the effects it had on the United States.~ One reason was that Germany was sinking ships and killing many Americans. Germany also tried to make an alliance with Mexico with the Zimmerman note. It was a note that tried to get Mexico to fight against America. We also started to trade more with Great Britain and trade less with Germany, and that made them mad. Germany stated that they would also sink passenger ships with out warning.6. Students will understand the political, social and economic changes that occurred in the 1920’s in the United States.~ When automobiles were invented the construction of motels, shopping centers, and tourist camps went up. Gas stations were also invented. This created many new jobs for people. Flappers started in the late 1920’s. Flappers were young women who dressed in the latest fashions and danced.7. Students will understand the causes and effects of the Great Depression.~ Some causes of the Great Depression is the stock market crash of 1929. The Crash happened on October 29, 1929. Another reason is that banks died off and a lot of people lost their money. Also people stopped buying things because they didn’t have the money, which caused fewer items to be produced. With that as a result some workers were cut from their jobs. The Smoot-Hawley Tariff that was created in 1930. This helped protect American Companies.
