1. Students will understand the main political and economic systems of the world.Political*Direct democracy- When the people make their own decisions rather than the elected representatives.*Representative Democracy- Citizens elect representatives to make the decisions*Monarchy-A government that has a ruler such has a king. There are two types of Monarchies1. Absolute- when the ruler has complete power over the government and everyone2. Constitutional-They have very little political power and are more seen as a symbol and appear at memorial events.*Dictatorship- a government that is controlled by a dictator which is someone who has COMPLETE power.*Communism- when the government owns everything such as all businesses big or small.* Anarchy-it is when there is no government enforced and most of the time is complete craziness!Economic*Socialism- When the people own their own businesses or land*Capitalism- money*Mixed economy- mixed of capitalism and socialism2. Students will understand the differences between the major political parties in the U.S.The democrats a liberal and believe in change of the society, and they are very environmental or you could say that they are the green group..The Republicans are conservative and believe in laissez-faire which means do what the people want and the trickle down theory which is where you lower taxes on the rich and it will go down for the rest of the people.

Students will understand the causes and effects of global warming.There are many causes of global warming such as pollution from the big factories producing the things that we need and the people driving all their cars. All this pollution is ruining our ozone layer and trapping the heat inside the earth causing it to warm. Which takes us to the effects, the melting of the polar caps is a big one. They saw that our grandchildren or possibly children will not be able to see a polar bear. This is projected to be a very large problem for our century.4. Students will understand causes and effects of overpopulation.The causes are many. The lack of education to people is a big one. All the people see in life is making a family. The lack of knowledge of birth control and other ways to prevent pregnancies are big causes.The effects of this are poverty mostly. Usually they have lots of kids and the kids are not healthy so many of them die which makes the mother keep having babies so she will have them to take care of her when she is old. Over population is what they think is causing global warming because of all the cars and deforestation because you have to make room for more people on earth.
5. Globalization- This is where we watched the freedman video and he explained what he meant by the flat world by telling us the three stages of it.1.0 is the first one. This was when all of the countries were discovered and we knew about each other.2.0 This is when the countries start to work together. Whether its factories or trading or anything. That’s when the world is getting a little smaller3.0 When technology kicks in. You can talk to people around the world in seconds. He used the taking down of the Berlin wall as an example and how it flattened the world so much.Current eventsIraq- We went to war in 2003. The reason we went to Iraq is because we believed that they were making nuclear bombs, but when we got there we did not find any. We also went there to get Saddam Hussein.Afghanistan- We decided to go to war after the 911 attack. After Al-Qaeda hijacked and crashed two planes into the world trade center, one into the pentagon, and another landed in Pennsylvania. So we decided to go there and try to take them down.Iran- they have been hiding nuclear bombs and saying that they are not. They are telling everyone that it is for nuclear energy but they are making to big of chemicals to have it be just used for energy.Rwanda- well we watched a movie on this and we did a big blog about it. It is about a genocide between the Hutu and the Tutsis. The Tutsis used to be favored and got better jobs and pay and that made the Hutus very angry. So they retaliated and started killing them off no mater what age gender or anything.Somalia- is a failed state in Africa. It’s what you would call anarchy. They have no stable government and have not for a long time. There are lots of terrorist groups there trying to get people to join because they will give them money that they would not be able to make.So that’s it!!! It’s been a good semester and I have most definitely learned a TON of new information that I didn’t know before. I will say that I am glad that I took this class and stuck it out even though I had doubts that I couldn’t in the beginning.
