1. Understand the causes of the stock market crash and Great Depression. (overproduction - companies making too much, stock prices overvalued, people buying on margin drove stock prices up, high tariff policy, stock market crash, banks closing,

2. Understand the impact the stock market crash and Great Depression had on the country and world as well as on the lives of people in the United States. ( people committed suicide, people started sharing things like, cutting your work hours in half, unemployment went way up, many people dropped out of highschool.)

Billions of dollars were lost, wiping out thousands of investors. In the aftermath of Black Tuesday, America and the rest of the industrialized world spiraled downward into the Great Depression.

3. Understand what the United States government did to help alleviate the problems the Great Depression brought to our country.

There were New Deal programs made, FDR: made jobs, CCC (young) : labor jobs for men, WPA, FERA paid people to stay in school, PWA also made a lot of jobs. hover. what it did to help them^, scc,

4. Understand the causes, effects and major events of WWII. (effects casualties, atomic bombs, lost of life, split up of germany into four zones, us didn't go back to isolations, major events d day pearl harbor homefront atomic bomb )

Started in Europe because of Germany invading Poland and it started for us with pearl harbor. AXIS POWERS- Italy, Germany Japan. ALLIES- USA, Great Britain, Japan, USSR joined later.  Operation Barbarossa- largest land invasion never got to Moscow. Battle of Berlin, hitler killed himself. Pearl harbor- December 7, 1941 1) japanese major victory 2) we declared war on japan 3)germany and italy declared war on US 4) we declare war on them, all navy battleships were damaged and 188 aircrafts destroyed, they also attacked Hong Kong, Guam, Philippine Islands, wake island. Iwo Jima, last battle before invading Japan, Okinawa, then we bombed japan, Hiroshima- little boy Nagasaki bombing- fat man

5. Understand how/why the Allies won WWII. (strong allies great britain soviet union, more man power, atomic bombs, hitler's mistakes,

America produced so much war goods, Women started working and took over jobs from men, US had strong Allies, we had more allies than Germany, Atomic bombs, Good strategies: Island hopping, first take over the weaker parts of Germany, Ultra and Magic; German and Japanese code, Hitler's mistakes:He wanted to take over Russia, by taking over the 3 major cities, Wasn't prepared for the cold

6. Understand the causes, effects, goals, and major events of the Cold War. (causes ww2, soviet union with atomic bomb, berlin blockade, difference in communism and democracy- difference in opinions, effects, money spent, soviet union fell apart, us became world power, goals soviet union spread communism containment stop the spread of communism, main events berlin blockade, end of cold war, bay of pigs invasion.

The difference of opinion, IS based on democracy, capitalism and freedom, USSR based on dictatorship and communism and control. The red scare 1919 both thought their system was better and distrusted the others intentions. Yalta Conference- Before the end of the WWII, Stalin lies about free voting or whatever. Stalin breaking his promise to allow free elections at the Yalta conference, American fear of a communist attack, (RED SCARE) and the USSR fear of US attack. Cold war was fueled by what happened in Germany during the time. USSR fear of atomic bomb, actions in their German zone, goal to spread communism around the world, this feeling of suspicion lead to mutual distrust and this did a great deal to depend the cold war. East- communist (gov) West- democratic (people)

Post goals for US- Wanted to promote open markets for us goods to prevent another depression, promote  democracy thought the world, especially in Asia and Africa, stop the spread of communism, policy of containment (official)

Post goals for the USSR-Wanted to create greater security for itself, lost millions of people in WWII and Stalin’s purges, feared a strong Germany, established defensible borders, encourage friendly governments on its borders, spread communism around the world, wanted to surrounded themselves with allies with safety and protection

7. Understand the causes, effects, and major events of the Korean Conflict. (north invaded the south came back, major events back and forth war north invades united nations pushes up to china push back, at war officially today still. affects country splits millions of lives lost, north korea still a problem today)

-Korean War- Only 3 years long. After WWII Korea was split North controlled by USSR South controlled by US. Douglas MacArthur was in charge of forces in pacific He was then fired because he bad mouthed Truman and replaced by Ridgeway.

Understand the causes, effects, and major events of the Vietnam Conflict.( causes containment, major events escalation got involved slowly, the defensive offensive north put on south, pentagon papers came up. people tried to not get into the draft. effects we left went over war powers act, distrustful of the government)

Geneva Conference- Held after French leave and they split Vietnam in two North controlled by Minh south by Diem. Vietnamization- pull out of the war and let the south fight. Stop fighting, we pull out, north and south Vietnam would recognize each others independence Viet Cong- Went to the Jungle North Vietnam Army  Guerrilla Warfare-armed civilians or irregulars use military tactics including ambushes.

Understand the causes and effects of the Persian Gulf Wars, 9-11 and the War on Terror- afghan 911, afghanistan, iraq 2003-2011, mention persian gulf war, who was responsible, why they did it, benladin. osama, letter to american, he didn't like that we did not like the muslims. we sent groups to somewhere and that's the two big reasons they started attacking us. because of 911 we went to war with them. bush-iraq obama-afghanistan, iraq war we thought saddam hussein had wmd and he doesn't . they advised them how to fight isis.
