This is a movie by Steven Spielberg. The whole movie is basically a flash back of Private Ryan to the invasion of Normandy. It all started out with boats landing on Omaha Beach. Dog Green section actually. They all pretty much get smoked while getting off the boat. The whole story line is based on Captain Miller trying to find James Francis Ryan to tell him that his three brothers have been killed at Omaha beach. It is a very long search to find private. At one point in time one of the squad members sat on a board and it fell over and knocked down a wall which revealed multiple German infantry. The American squad told them to surrender but none of them did so they had to shoot them all. They finally reach a platoon which has someone by the name of Private Ryan. But this was the wrong Ryan. His name was James Frederick Ryan and they were looking for James Francis Ryan. It was actually pretty sad because they got done telling the wrong Ryan that his brothers had all died and then they realized that they had the wrong Ryan and now he thinks that his brothers have all died anyway. Oh well moving on. I haven’t seen a black person throughout the whole movie. The squad that is looking for Ryan are looking through a bag of dog tags to find Private Ryan’s name but meanwhile they don’t realize that the whole airborne division is watching and they think its disrespectful since private Ryan was from the airborne. After this incident they just start yelling out Private Ryan’s name and they get a lead with one of his buddies. A guy comes to the front and says he knows him and gives him directions to find him. This by far is the biggest break through to find Private Ryan. At this point Captain Miller informs his squad of where they are going. The place that they need to go is a bridge by Rommel. This bridge is going to be heavily guarded because the Germans want to get past it. He and his squad realize it’s going to be very tough and many of them might die.

They come to their first obstacle which is a German radio site which has German infantry on it. They devise a plan to attack it or go around it. They decided to attack it but the members of the squad don’t want to risk it. The squad wins the attack but loses one guy. They lost their squadron medic. The squad catches a German soldier and tries and gets intelligence out of him but he doesn’t give any info. The squad was walking through a field of grass when all of a sudden German tanks appear out of nowhere. Here is where they meet up with other American infantry that had been hidden in the same field as they had been walking. The three American infantry come over to talk to them as soon as they neutralize the German tank. They all say their names and one of them says Private Ryan. Captain Miller then says Private James Francis Ryan? And he replies yes sir. They found him. . finally. Captain Miller then breaks the news to him that his brothers were killed. He takes it pretty well actually. Then Captain Miller says his orders were to bring Ryan back and take him home. Private Ryan doesn’t want to leave his squad. He wants to stay and fight for his squad. Captain Miller than decides to stay and help fight for the bridge. They get all set up for the attack. They make a bunch of bombs and explosives to blow the bridge if they get taken over. While they wait Captain Miller and Private Ryan talk about Ryan’s brothers. The German forces roll in and I think our infantry weren’t expecting that many German troops. It was a very un even match. The Germans just had too much gun power. As soon as it looks like everyone is going to die. American air strike comes to the aid, and sends all the Germans fleeing. Captain Miller dies but Private Ryan makes it out alive and makes it back home.
I thought this was a very heart touching story about a captain and his squad fighting for their freedom and trying to get at least one son of the four brothers back home to his parents. It has a very good meaning about dedication of the men of war. If we didn’t stay dedicated we couldn’t have won the war. I have always liked this movie and I was glad to have to watch in for history. This made watching it a fun twist. It was ironic that it just so happened to be on tnt the night that this blog was do. It gets very emotional at the end of the movie for Captain Miller’s squad.
