This weekend me, Kyle, and Mumm watched Saving Private Ryan at my place. The movie starts out with an old war veteran, AKA Private Ryan, and his family at Arlington
cemetery. He’s walking through the tombstones and collapses to his knees as
memories of the war come back to him.
Then Captain Miller and his Rangers are storming the beaches at Normandy, Dog Green Sector to be specific. Eventually after many casualties they take the
beach and destroy the German bunkers. Then it shows people back in the states
typing letters to family members of those who were KIA. They notice that three
out of four brothers were killed. So they decide to organize a rescue mission
to find the fourth brother and return him home to his remaining family.
Captain Miller is assigned with the mission. He picks 8 of his top guys and one translator and sets off to find Ryan. They fight they’re way into this city. While in the city Kaparzo gets hit by a sniper. One of
miller’s men, a really skilled sniper, takes out the other sniper and they
continue looking for Ryan. They find a James Francis Ryan from Oklahoma
and tell him his brothers are dead until they realize they’re looking for James
Francis Ryan from Iowa..
After the foul up they continue they’re search.
They come across a downed plane from the 101’st airborne and doc wade helps treat the wounded paratroopers. They search through a bag of dog tags and are unsuccessful in finding Ryan in there. They talk to a person who
knows where Ryan is and he tells them he’s defending a bridge over “in Ramelle
or some damn place”. They start they’re hike to Ramelle but come across a
German machine gun trench and after some argument decide to take it out. Medic
Wade is shot and killed and they take a German prisoner but then blindfold and
release him after further argument.
They finally find the right Ryan near Ramelle and inform him about whats going on. Ryan says he doesn’t deserve to go home and insists he stay and fight. Miller decides to stay and help defend the bridge.
There’s a huge ending battle and lots of men fall including Captain Miller. Before miller died he tells Ryan to “earn this” basically telling him to live a good life and earn what all his men gave up for him.
I think this was an incredible movie and was extremely realistic. It’s one of my favorites and I think everyone should watch it at least once.
