I watched "Sands of Iwo Jima" for my movie. This is probably going to be a shorter blog since I know about the topic already with watching "Flags of our Fathers" last week and I already knew about Iwo Jima. Iwo Jima is an island in the Pacific and the Marines went there and fought Japs. The reason why we cared so much about this 5 by 2.5 mile island is because it was a landing strip and if we took control of it then it could be a turning point. Well the whole island had tunnels under it that the Japs used and it was a very bloody battle.

I love learning about this battle, maybe it's because my dad was in the Marines so I find it import to atleast have a general knowledge about history. As for this moive I didn't really like it. Parts were okay, but it wasn't really a war movie. It did show the true military though, how they acted at camp, how they went out and drank, and how they had to stay strong in battle even though it hurt. I liked that they added in actual film too, it gave it a little more real point to it. I just don't like John Wayne and I think that may have ruined it for me. I like a good war movie not so much of the love story.
