Saddam Hussein

Saddam Hussein Abd al-Majid al-Tikriti was born in the town of Al-Awja, close to a town named Tirkit. He was born in 1937 to a family of sheephearders. His mother named him because his name meants, "one who confronts". This is funny because he confronts with many people throughout his political power. It is said that when Saddam was ten, he moved to Bhagdad because his family was seperated, and his father pretty much disowned him. When he moved there, he studied Iraqi Law, and other political learnings. After Saddam got out of school, it is said that he became actively involved with military things and political power. In 1976, it is said that Hussain rose to the top of military generals in Iraq, and rapidly became the whole leader of the Iraqi nation. He then soon became the architect of Iraq's foreign policy, and represented them in diplomatic situations. in 1979, al-Bakr the former president, was forced to resign by Saddam because he wanted to be in power. After this, Saddam assumed he would just fill the position, being that he was not voted in by the people, and is then looked at as almost a dictator. In 1979, Iraq went to war with Iran. Also in the early 1990's, they invaded Kuwait, whitch then U.S. forces got involved and liberated Kuwait again. In 2003 the U.S. invaded Iraq. They did this in fear of Wepons of Mass Destruction, which were never found, though there were blueprints found which led for the search. Also, Saddam believed that the U.S. invaded to look strong against Iran, so Iran would be afraid of the U.S. in future affairs. On December 14, 2003, Saddam was captured at a farmhouse near Tirkit. This made world headlines, and he was sent to the U.S. for investigation. In the meantime before capture, the U.S. was setting up a new governemtn for Iraq. After further investigation, Saddam was sent back to Iraq, his home country to get punishment. After he was sentanced, he got the death penalty, which he was hanged later on in 2006 Many Iraqi's were cheering and mocking Saddam after this. Hussein actualy wanted to be shot, which he believed he got more dignity if he was shot instead of being hanged. In my opinion, Saddam was a terrible man. He murdered hundreds, and paid the price. He will go down as one of the worst people ever.
