Sacajawea was a native american women of the Shoshone tribe.She was vital to Lewis and Clark's expedition up the Missouri river. She had a very good sense of direction she also spoke Shoshone and hidatsase which was helpful when communicating with other tribes in the area when asking for directions, food or horses,As was the case when they were negotiating with a Shoshone tribe whose chieftain turned out to be Sacajawea's brother to provide horses to make there crossing of the rocky mountains easy.As a result of there sibling status they were provided horses and also guides from the tribe to lead them across the rocky mountain.By assisting the expedition it also help create more peace between the native Americans tribes and the Americans.She has been recognized by the woman's suffrage association for women's worth and independence,Her face and son are also on the dollar coin.
Records say she was born in 1788 in lemhi river valley.She was slave captured by hidatsase tribe and was gambled and given to Toussaint Charbonneau a french candian trader.She had two children jean baptiste charbonneau(son)and lizette charbonneau(daughter).Died in 1812 fort Lisa cause of putrid fever.
