Well, when I first Googled "Genocide in" several African Countries came up. Just saying. So the history of these two tribes, the Hutus and Tutsis, has always been voilent, but appearently it exploded during the Colonial period. Belgium was the country who orginaly made it a a colony. So the Belgiums thought that the Tutsis, who were standarly skinnier and taller than the Hutus for some reasons and treated them better and the Tutsis didn't complain. So then the Hutus began to get jealous which lead to the the riots which killed 20,000 Tutis and made Rwanda an independant country. However, now the tables were turned, and the Hutus were in control of the Tutsis.
So then from 1962 on the Tutsis where the scapegoats for every single crisis that happened and became the second class citizens. Some Tutsis that fled formed the RPF, which was formed to try to let them return to their homeland. So from then on the cultural war kept getting larger and larger until the final string was broken. In 1994, the president, Juvenal Habyarimana, was pronounced dead when his plane was shot down by a rocket and killed everyone on board. Now his followers, along with a French Judge, blame it on the Tutsis, particularly their leader, Paul Kagame. Kagame says that it was the Hutus Extremists and that they did it as a pretext for the mass slaughter that was soon to take place. As soon as the President was killed, his followers amassed an army and began to iradicate the Tutsis. Then the Tutsis tried to flee but 800,000 didn't get out in time and were slaughtered and/or raped by the Hutus militia and Army. Then the RPF under Kagame fought the Hutus and eventually won and took over the area. Some Hutus fled and are sitll trying to take down the Tutsis government that was set up following their victory over the Hutus. The place is just as hostile as most places in Africa.
In my opinion this is just common tribal behavior. I mean, when I Googled it, other genocides came up. This is just a terrible thing to say, nut its just going to happen again and there's almost no way to combat it. I mean, when a government switches in America, we vote. They kill each other. We can't stop it. They have to come to terms with each other before anything can happen. No peace can stand if they themselves dont support it.
