Well there are these two groups called the tutis and the hutu. They are pretty alike they speak the same languages, live in the same spots, and have the same traditons, but for years they have had troubles with each other. When they faught the hutu would put the bodies of the tutis in the rivers saying they were sending them somewhere else. When the people from belgium came over they saw the tutsi people as what we would say today completely awesome or they pretty much looked up to them. So for the next four years the tutsi people got pretty easy jobs and that did not make the other group happy at all.The goal of the tutis people was to overthrow Habyarimana. He is a a hutu man who was pretty much the leader. There started to be many attacks and threats against him but he just kinda blew it off to get some good respect and say that he was not scared. Then in 1993 the two groups signed a what you would call a peace treaty but that really didnt solve the attacks happening there were just fewer of them.At the begining of april habyarimana's plane was shot down and that started the whole civil war. The hutu sent out their military to kill anyone who was tutis no matter what age gender anything they were just killing eveyone. They were told to stay in their homes to stay safe but that would not save them. There were even roadblocks so they couldnt get out. They did not keep track of how many people they were killing becasue they really didnt care but it is estimated at about 1 million.How did the un play in this? Well.... The un thought that a belgium peacekeeper shot down the plane. The un thought it would not be a good idea for them to help but the RPF did help them.This story is pretty sad about how these two groups are fighting and all. I didnt really like it. What really made me sick is how some some of the big murders were in churches and there were lots of children in there. Its just real real sad what is happening in Africa.
