The United Nations is a group of people whose purpose is to promote peace in all nations of the world. The United Nations' role in the War in Iraq was to eliminate the weapons of mass destruction and the missiles that were being used by Iraq. The terms and conditions that were established by the United Nations Security Council on April 3, 1991 were to make sure that Iraq could not fire any weapons of mass destruction and missiles, and also to make sure that no more of those weapons could be created. Some of the missiles could range over 150 kilometers so they were very dangerous and needed to be stopped.

The terms and conditions of the resolution required Iraq to come up with a declaration within 15 days. On April 6, 1991 Iraq accepted and twelve days later Iraq provided the necessary declaration. The United Nations Security Council inspected for the weapons and missiles, but didn't start destroying them until July 1992. Iraq kept violating the resolutions, and kept blocking the inspection teams.

There were 12 resolutions made from 1991-1998. Unfortunately, these resolutions didn't work.
Iraq was in violation of cease fire and threatened "serious consequences."

I think it was good that the United Nations tried to get rid of all the weapons of mass destruction because they are wayy too dangerous, and after seeing how far the missiles could range, I was even more relieved. I was also very disappointed when I read that the resolutions didn't work and were considered "failures."
