Puerto Rico

From 1898 to present day, the United States has been in control of Puerto Rico. The ratification of the Treaty of Paris of 1898 pretty much set things off. Puerto Rico, changed to Porto Rico then back to Puerto Rico, was controlled by the U.S. military. Puerto Rico became part of the United States control because of the Spanish American War. My thought, was that the U.S. tried to make Puerto Rico like a little U.S.A. The U.S. changed to currency to the U.S. dollar and brought into the picture of public schools along with the U.S. Postal Services.

19 years later, in 1917 the Jones Act was established and granted Puerto Ricans U.S. citizenship. I don't really know what that means, so I guess I should find out. Well, what I got from it was that it involved the 14th amendment, and it pretty much meant the Puerto Ricans were citizens of the United States of America, correct me if I'm wrong. It sorta seems like a confusing subject, so I could be wrong. Granting the Puerto Ricans citizenship to the U.S., drafted many of them into World War One. Puerto Rico is still under the United States control today.
