Out of all the Spanish possesions in the America's, Puerto Rico is the only one that has never gained it's independence. Although, during the Spanish-American War, Puerto Rico was invaded by the US. The US took possession of the Puerto Rico Land. The Foraker Act, was offically named as the Organic Act of 1900. This act is a law that established civilian government in Puerto Rico. Also, the Jones Act gave Puerto Ricans United States citizenship.
Now, they are US citizens and can move freely through US and Puerto Rico. They cannot vote for presidents of the US. Referred to as commonwealth. Women can be the Miss America Pagents.
