HUAC.. Nick Finken
Many Americans were concerned for the safety of the US. 100,000 Americans claimed membership in a communist party. People feared first loyaly of American communitst was to the Soviet Union. Fearful that Hollywood was being "controled" by communist. The communist were sent to jail.
Cuban Missile Crisis.. Kelsey Tetzlaff
The Cuban Missile Crisis was an argument between Cuba and the United States. It was the closest the US had ever came to a nuclear war. The Bay of Pigs Invasion was one of the main causes of it. The Soviet Union was helping Cuba. They brought weapons and nuclear war heads to Cuba. JFK ordered the Soviet Union to dismantel the nuclear war heads. The US had missile in Turkey pointed toward the Soviet Union. The US wanted to quarantine Cuba, basically blocking anything from going in and out of Cuba. After Cuba removed their missiles, the US removed theirs. The United States agreed not to invade Cuba. October 18th, Soviets agreed to dismantal the nuclear war.
McCarthyism and Joe McCarthyism.. Kody Kline
He was in the military to be a veteran that would help him with his campaign. He was born on November 14, 1908 and died may 2, 1957. He was elected in 1952 and he claimed that the Communist were taking over the government. The attacks on the suspected communists were known as McCarthyism in the the early 1950's. McCarthy claimed to have the names of 57, 81 and 205 communists in the State Department but had no evidence. He claimed that the democratic party was guily of 20 years of treason for allowing communists into te government. Republicans did little to stop McCarthy. In 1954, McCarthy mad accusations against the US army. McCarthy's bullying of witnesses cost him losing public support. Three years later he suffered from alcoholism, and died a broken man in 1957.
