The Korean Conflict... Ian

Syngman Rhee pretested against joint ownership of Korea. On March 31, 1948, the UN electedan anti-communist government for South Korea. After WW2, Korea was split into two parts. Beginning Hostilities slide on North Korea invaded South Korea in 1950. Hours after South Korea retalitation, UN condemned North Korea's attack. On June 27, 1950, the UN Security Council decided to give armed support to South Korea.

Ray's Part

US air force relied heavily on the Lockheed F80 and the Republic F80. During WW2, two planes proved to be very invaluable. The US leader was Harry Truman and the General was Douglas McArthur and he was the commander of the UN forces. He later gets fired by Truman. McArthur was talking very bad against Truman. The last thing Truman wanted was to expand the war. He wanted this to be a very focused war in Korea. Even after WW2 brought peace to most Americans, tensions were high between US and Soviet Union. America focues on its foreign policy. The Korean Peninsula was divided into two parts. The nother hald was communist and back up by Soviet Union. The southern half was democratic and was backed up by the United States.

Joe's Part

The war ended in 1943 but we still have troops over there today. The ceasefire happened on July 27th, 1953. Operation Glory was used to allow countries to exchange their dead. 4167 army and marine soldies were exchanged.
