President Obama's Speech to America's Students

President Barack Obama gave a speech to America's students on Tuesday the eighth. He started out saying that he wasn't that fond of school and didn't like homework and studying for tests when he was younger, which I think was a great thing to say, because it relates to students that are on the same boat. He also said that he got into trouble, and did things that he is not proud of. Also, this relates to kids that get into trouble, which might inspire them to shape up. Obama told about his childhood, how is mother was poor, and that he didn't always get the opportunities that everyone else got, but he still worked hard and made himself opportunities. His mother made him wake up at 4:30 a.m. to help him learn more and study. He obviously hade a caring mother, which not every child has.Barack Obama said he worked hard in school so that he could go to college. He also said that his wife, Michelle, did the same. This proves to kids that aren't the smartest kids or have the best situation, that it is possible to go to college and get good grades. He talked about children that have had to overcome many challenges in their life. He told students the story of a girl who didn't speak English when she moved to the United States, but now is becoming a doctor. He told the story of a boy who had a brain tumor, and has to work extra hard on his homework because the tumor affected his memory, but now he is going to college. He told the story of a girl who has lived in many foster homes and lived in rough neighborhoods, but she has started a program for young children, graduating high school, and going to college. This shows children that if you work hard, you can achieve your goals. He said that every child has something they are good at, and you most likely will fail at something you try. But, you can't quit, just keep trying. Some of the most successful people have failed many, many times. You have to try new things to know if you are good at them, as well. He also said that you have to work hard at things, you just aren't naturally good at everything you do. The president said to stop watching television all the time and playing Xbox, and read a book, study, or spend more time on your homework. He told students to not be afraid to ask questions and don't feel like you are stupid. It's not a sign of weakness, it's a sign of strength. You have the courage to admit that you don't understand something, and that's good. He said that if you give up on something, then you are giving up on your country, as well.Obama said that he and teachers are doing their best to help us, students, succeed in school, and we should give back by trying our best and not giving up on things.I think this speech was very good and that it may inspire children who are in tough situations. I don't think that their was anything wrong with his speech and that he was trying to make children socialist. He was just saying to work hard and not give up. Now reading the speech, I think that all kids could have gone to school that day and been fine, but I could see why parents didn't want their kid going to school. They didn't want Obama teaching their kids about socialist ideas, which many people thought he was going to do. I think this speech was harmless, and a very good one. Inspiring to some!
