President Dwight Eisenhower

David Dwight Eisenhowere was born on October 14, 1890 in Denison, Texas to parent David Jacob Eisenhower and Ida Elizabeth Stover. Dwight was the third of their seven sons.

Two years after he was born, Dwight's family moved to Abilene, Kansas. When Dwight was a child, his mother was a member of the Jehova's Witnesses. Their home served as the meeting hall between the years 1896 and 1915. Dwight graduated from Abilene High School in the class of 1909, becoming a night foreman at the local creamery to help support his brother Edgar's college fund.

Eisenhower enrolled in the US Military Academy at West Point in New York in 1911, and graduated at the upper alf of his class in 1915, which was called "the class the stars fell on" because 59 of 1915 graduates became generals.

Dwight was on the football team at his college, and even tackled legendary athlete, Jim Thorpe. A week after this game, Dwight injured his knee and it became permanently damaged.

During World War I, Eisenhower became the number three leader of the new tank corps and rose to temporary Lieutenent Colonel in the National Army. He later became executive officer to General Fox Conner in the Panama Canal Zone, where he served until 1924. Dwight later served as a battalion commander at Fort Benning, Georgia until 1927. Eisenhower served as a chief military aide to General Douglas MacArthur until 1935. He then went to the Phillipines, where he served as assistant military adviser to the Philippine government. Dwight was promoted to the rank of permanent lieutenant colonel in 1936 after sixteen years as a major. He once made a solo flight over the Philippines in 1937, although he was never a miltary ranked pilot.

On July 1, 1916, Dwight married Mamie Geneva Doud of Boone, IA. Together they had two sons, Doud Dwight, born im 1918, and John Sheldon Doud, born on August 3, 1922. Doud Dwight died at the age of three on January 2, 1921, due to scarlet fever.

After the Pearl Harbor Attack, Eisenhower was assigned to the General Staff in Washington, serving until June 1942. He held responsibility for creating the major attack plans against Japan and Germany. After this he was appointed Assistant Chief of Staff in charge of Operations Division.

After World War II ended, Eisenhower had been promoted several times and was encouraged to run for presidency. In 1953, he ran for predient against President Truman and Richard Nixon , whose daughter later married Eisenhower's son. Dwight's slogan was "I Like Ike" which proved to be true when he won the election.

Eisenhower had a alot of military rankings, and I tried to post as many as I could, but there were alot listed. I can see he was a very succesful man before his presidency, and after as well.
