Pearl Harbor Day

Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941 by Japan. It all started out that morning with two army officers spotting the Japanese fighter planes on a radar. They then contacted a junior officer who told them to disregard that because they were expecting B-17 planes to come in that morning.

The Japanese had carfully planned out this attack for several months. They had thought the United States Navy's battleship as a possible threat to the Japanese's expansion to go south.

Eighteen months before the attack, FDR moved the US fleet to Pear Harbor as a force against Japanese agression. Japan's raw materials had been slowly going down due to the very long war against china. They really need supplies like oil.

Shown here is the USS Shaw exploding

The battleship USS Arizona after a bomb hit the ship causing explosions killing 1,104 men.

Some times I wonder what it would be like now if the Japanese hadn't bombed Pear Harbor. Would our military be as strong as it is today if they didn't attack? I always think that people would learn from their mistakes and Pearl Harbor is probobly one of the days that they definitely would learn from.
