---By 1941 Japan had already begun its war and they were taking islands and invading the Asian mainland. However one major power had they a little nervous and that was the United States. In order to try and get us to stay out of the war they decided to attack Pearl Harbor naval base in an attempt to cripple the US navy and intimidate us to stay isolationist.
--I think that their goals were a little crazy and that they had a snowball’s chance in heck to accomplish these.
---On November 26 1941 Japanese forces left for Hawaii with 6 aircraft carriers carrying 408 planes. They attacked on December 7 1941. The first wave consisted of 183 planes in three groups and was launched north of Oahu. The first group had planes that were mainly to target battleships and aircraft carriers. There were 90 bombers loaded with armor piercing bombs to quickly sink and destroy American planes with their swift attack. The second group was 54 dive bombers with the sole objective of taking out American planes struggling to get off the ground at Wheeler Field and on Ford Island. The third group was to cover the same area but destroy the planes that managed to get off the ground.
---The second wave had mainly the same set up although it was to occur on a different island. The attack only took 90 minutes to complete and over 2000 Americans were dead with over 1000 wounded. 18 ships were run aground or sunk, 5 of which were battleships. Nearly half the deaths occurred when the forward ammo storage on the USS Arizona exploded. The Nevada tried to escape but was targeted more and it purposely ran aground. The California was sunk along with the Oklahoma. There were 402 airplanes in Hawaii but 188 were destroyed and 159 had damage with most of these on the ground when it occurred. We actually shot down 5 of our aircraft confusing them with Japanese.
--I think that they were dumb to attack mainly the battleships and that they should have hit the carriers if they were smart.
---55 Japanese airmen were killed and nine submarines were sunk. 29 planes were destroyed and 74 damaged by antiaircraft guns. The Japanese were going to have a third wave that would have targeted fuel and ammo storage along with the dry docks and maintenance facilities. They never did but it would have crippled the US navy for at least another year.
--I believe that if the third wave would have been successful we may have seized to be a world power.
---The biggest effect of the attack and the widest known is that the US seized to be isolationist and entered the war. Japanese Americans were now extremely distrusted and put into internment camps so they couldn’t do anything to harm Americans. The Pacific fleet was damaged nearly a year so they weren’t able to play a vital role right away. It made America as a whole really angry at the Japanese and trade with them seized entirely.
--I think that what we did to the Japanese was just like the way Germany treated the Jews but I don’t think we killed them off like they did.
