The Attack on Pearl Harbor.
On the morning of December 7, 1941, the Japanese Navy bombed Pearl Harbor in Hawaii with their planes. 2400 American military members were killed on that morning. Many of the American ships and planes on those ships were also destroyed.
Several days before the attack, six Japanese aircraft carriers started off towards Hawaii. Around 350 airplanes were going to be used for the attack. Two major waves of Japanese planes were flown over Oahu that day. The Americans had intercepted a radio message that the Japanese were going to possibly attack, but they didn't know when or where.
Japan had not signed any paper to declare war America to this point. As a result of the attack, America declared war on Japan.
I think that December 7, 1941, was a very sad day for America and the military. I think it just shows how vulnerable we were back then, and how many countries did not like us.
