On Saturday December 6 President Franklin Roosevelt made a last appeal to the Emperor of Japan...But there was no reply. Later that day the U.S. code-breaking service begins intercepting a 14-part Japanese message and breaks the first 13 parts, giving them on to the President and Secretary of State. America thought there was a attack that was taking place, but they thought it was going to be in southeast Asia. The last part of the code was decoded on Sunday morning around nine. Another code was sent out and we got it around one. The war department sent out an alert but uses a commercial telegraph because radio contact with Hawaii is temporarily broken. Delays prevent the alert from arriving at headquarters in Oahu until noontime, four hours after the attack had already begun. At six a.m the first attack came and at seven there came a second attack of Japanese planes.
Japan probably attacked because Franklin banned exports of iron, steel and oil. Also Pearl Harbor was the largest American naval base and Japan didnt want the U.S, in the war so they bombed.
I didnt know that there was two attacks on Pearl Harbor.
