Pearl Harbor is located on the island of O'ahu. On Sunday December 7,1941 Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese. Pearl Harbor was attacked by a fleet of Japanese planes and submarines.
The Americans had intercepted a message about a planned Japanese attack, but because there were problems the Americans couldnt figure out where the attack would be located. Under the command of Isoroku Yamamoto the fleef of Japanese torpedo bombers, mini subs, and fighter planes. The biggest part of american casualties was the sinking of the battleship arizona.
The Arizona was hit by an armor piercing torpedo which went into the ammunation compartment which blew up and sank the ship almost immediately. The Arizona had 1177 casualties. which was the greatest portion of the american casualties the casualties totaled at 2350. In the end 9 american ships were sunk and 21 were severly damaged. Out of the 21 damaged 3 were irreparable.
Needless to say as most of you can figure out this was a very devastating attack on the US navy. It was this battle that brought the US into WWII. Overall i think that this was a terrible battle for the americans because of the heavy losses.
