The Water Gate Scandal:

The watergate scandal was a political scandal that happened in the 1970's. This is one of the reasons that people believe that Nixon resigned from his position. The scandal was caused by suspects breaking into the Democratic National Committee headquarters. This was located at the Watergate Office Complex in Washington D.C.

The robbery happened on June 17, 1972.

Frank Willis was the guard that was working at the time. The door latch had been taped shut so that it would not lock and he immediately was aware mentally that there was a burglar. He then left and when he returned the latch was taped shut yet again.

At this time he called the police. Five men were arrested and charged with attempted burglary and interception of communications.

The FBI took over the investigation. The people who had broken into the building had been apart of the group that was trying to get Nixon re-elected into office. That group was called the Committee to Re-elect the President. These men were also close the the President himself. They broke into the building to try and find out what Democratics were planning to get Nixon out of office. In the building the robbers were tapping into phone lines and taking pictures of documents.

The FBI then discover that Nixon had had conversations with his staff about the scandal and what happened. The tapes were used against the robbers. Nixon was then scared that he would be impeached so he thaught that his only way outr was to resign. He did later on August 9, 1974.

I remember this event briefly. I was in 2nd grade and remember us kids not really knowing what was going on. I also remember going outside and lighting a candle to remember all the people who had died when the towers had fallen down.

The United States supplied the most troops out of all of these countries. The US had 100,000 troops in Kuwait ready for invasion. President Bush and Tony Blair, from England, said that they wanted to invade Iraq to, “to disarm Iraq of weapons of mass destruction. They also wanted to take Saddam Hussein from out of power, which would in turn free the people of Iraq." Some people think that the whole reason for the invasion was that the US and Great Britain wanted to take oil from Iraq. After the first invasion 36 other countries joined in the war.
