Who is Oprah Winfrey? Most people know her for her success, and not her struggles. Most people think that she just waltzed into being a millionaire, but there is a different story it is called the Oprah Winfrey story. Oprah didn't start in a home like you and me. Oprah came from a teenage mom who couldn't pull her own weight much less her daughters. The financial standings of Oprah’s mother caused her mom to leave Oprah With her grandmother and head north. On the farm Oprah fought terrible conditions, but keeping the positive attitude she had made the best of it. Oprah was very advanced in school through all the years, but moved back to her moms house where she began to revolt. She didn't get much attention there and when she was noticed it was when she was being sexually abused. After years of fighting through sexual abuse she couldn't take it anymore; so she ran away at the age of 13. It wasn't long after that she found herself pregnant, but the child died a little after its birth. Oprah kept high spirits though, and moved back down to Nashville with her dad.
Her dad was a strong pusher of going to school. So Oprah was really pushed into looking for a career. She really liked the field of public speaking; so she entered many public speaking contest. When she got first in one she was offered a scholarship into Tennessee State University. After landing her first job as a CBS co-anchor her career took off.
Oprah is a stepping stone for women and minorities. She accomplished so much after her struggles. Somethings she accomplished are: she became the first black person to ever air her own show, she broke poverty, she promotes equality of people, and many more.
