The Axis powers had hold of North Africa. So in order to kick them out the Allied powers planned an invasion. On Nov. 8th 1942 they launched Operation Torch.
The Allies planned a three pronged invasion that was designed to hit North Africa’s key ports in Morocco and Algeria.35,000 troops made up the Western task force, 18,000 made up the center and20,000 made up the Eastern task force.
The western task force was aimed at Casablanca was comprised of mainly American units led by Gen. Patton.
The central task force aimed at Oran was also comprised of mainly Americans. It was led by Gen. Fredendall.
The eastern task force was aimed at the Algiers. It consisted of both british and American forces, and was led by Gen. Anderson.

The operation was overall an Allied success, but the French forces that invaded were greatly weakened by the german military. It’s good that we helped stop The Axis powers in Africa sothat they didn’t try and flank us from the south.
